Saying Good-bye to Noumea, New Caledonia

Day 55 & 56 - Wednesday and Thursday, October 18 & 19

Our Airbnb is located in the Baie des Citrons, translated Lemon Bay. It’s about 10 minutes from the city center of Noumea, but feels a world apart. There are beautiful beaches, lots of beachside restaurants, shops, live music (starting Thursday night) and night-life. We enjoyed sleeping in a queen-size bed, showering without rocking, doing laundry in a larger washing machine and restaurant meals.

The weather was much better on Wednesday and we spent much of the day exploring the area. Our fitness trackers were happy as we walked over 9 miles. Mickey also got a haircut. He generally gets a “buzz cut” with #3 clippers. Well, in the metric system, a #3 clipper is twice as short as in the U.S. So he ended up with quite the buzz cut. I think it looks good!

Thursday was a down day for us. Carol spent time on the beach reading and people watching - and eating some gelato. It’s clever how they make a flower out of the two flavors of ice cream. Afterwards, we went to a local’s favorite restaurant and bar for a great sunset view, our last in New Caledonia.

Tomorrow we leave for New Zealand and the start of our terrestrial adventure.
