Day 39 - Tuesday, October 3rd
FINALLY, at 5:00 pm this afternoon and after 4 days off waiting we received our clearance to leave port from Fiji Customs and visit the rest of the Islands. We decided to depart that evening at 10:30 pm and sail through the night to our next destination, Nananu-I-Thake Island off the north shore of Fiji’s main island Viti Levu. We hope to arrive and anchor tomorrow afternoon.
We have also set a sail plan for the rest of our voyage to New Caledonia. Here are the highlights:
Wednesday, October 4th - Arrive and anchor at Nananu-I-Thake Island off the north shore of Fiji’s main island Viti Levu
Thursday, October 5th - Sail to Denarau Island Harbor in Nadi Bay on the west side of Viti Levu
Friday & Saturday, October 6th & 7th - Stay in Denarau Harbor to have Yacht brought onshore so the hull can be cleaned. In addition we will shore up provisions for the last week.
Saturday or Sunday, October 7th or 8th - Depart Denarau with a stopover at one of the Southern Wasawa Islands
Sunday or Monday, October 8th or 9th - Depart for our last 5-6 day crossing to New Caledonia, our final destination
Can you believe we have been sailing for 5 ½ weeks with just 1 ½ weeks left? Carol and I sure can’t as time has literally and figuratively “sailed right on by”. We look forward to putting an “end cap” on this marvelous and amazing adventure experience!
Cheers!
